Nerf Vortex Proton - Review!

Starting off the new Nerf Vortex Series is the Nerf Vortex Proton!

The Nerf Proton uses a spring powered launcher mechanism that fires foam discs.

It operates on a "Quick Snap-Load" system whereby its disc loading sled is pulled backwards to open up the loading compartment, this action also primes the blaster. To close the disc loading sled, simply push a switch on the side and the sled will move forward, then pull the trigger to fire.

The foam discs comprise of a flexible silicone rubber cap shaped core with a ring of soft foam surrounding it. Nerf refers to this foam disc design as "XLR Tech".

The blaster comes packaged with 3 x Vortex foam discs. It also has a tactical rail which is compatible with N-Strike accessories.

Average stock range is around 55-65ft.

  6. This isn't a review - it's a few pictures and a cut and paste . You should give opinion about this vs other blasters, about the range, the new discs, etc, not just 'it's a new gun the end'.

  7. do those discs get blown around a bit in the wind?

do they shoot straight? or do they go left and right like streamline darts?

  8. Zac Volmer,

The discs naturally fly in a slight curve to the target. The curve path depends on the canting angle of your blaster barrel and the wind conditions.

They are affected by wind the same way as with streamlines.

If the blaster is aimed properly and level with the ground with low wind conditions, the flight path can be quite predictable.

  9. thanks

so without wind the disc go straight?

i like accuracy and distance, i dont care for much else.

i saw the videos so i thought these might be good for me, is it worth it?

im either thinking about the 'proton' or 'vigilon'.

i dont think streamlines get affected by wind, so do the discs behave the same as streamlines in windy conditions?

  10. Zac Volmer,

Well, as i mentioned, the discs naturally fly in a slight curve to the target. The aiming techniques are abit different from foam darts, you'll need to practice to get used to the feel of the range distance and how the discs travel.

Streamlines do get affected by wind conditions too, those who play Nerf outdoors would have experienced their foam darts swerving wildly in strong wind... actually, even when indoors and with no wind, streamlines are so unbalanced they tend to be inaccurate and inconsistent anyways. :)

The discs also get affected by strong wind, but at least in low or no wind conditions, they are much more accurate and consistent (when compared to streamlines).

  11. ok, i never notice streamlines swerveing in strong wind.
(im just so used to thier crap accuracy indoors)

oh, and just so you know im into a out-door night wars

    i will get a 'proton'

thanks, luckily for you Ive finished with the questions :)

  13. Frank,

At this moment, they should still be available at local dept stores in Singapore, just shop around to find them.

  14. mbryanawesome,

Get the Vigilon if you have ready access to Vortex disc refills... if not, then the Maverick because its easier to get foam dart ammo refills for it.

    1. Anonymous,

I've not tested it that way before (already traded my sets away, so can't try it out anymore), but if it still works well, then i guess it should be okay.
